Shammah High school teachers completed Microsoft Digital Literacy Certification

, Shammah High School (Luweero, Uganda)

The teaching staff of Shammah High School embarked on the Microsoft Literacy Certificate in 2018. The management and staff are very thankful to the Distance Teaching and Mobile Learning for sharing this great opportunity that has added so much value in the form of knowledge, information, and skill-related computer education.

Who Took Part?

The program was compulsory for all teachers, and they gladly participated in the program. Attached is a list of all teachers and the subjects they teach. The administrators were asked to lead by example, and many of them also participated in the program and are grateful because they gained a lot of knowledge and skills. The administration’s ability to pass their knowledge onto the teaching staff is a sign of good leadership and compassion to learn and help others.

What Skills Were Gained?

At the start of the certificate, most participants thought the program was too easy and too practical until they further continued their studies and learned a great deal.

  • Regular interaction with computers can significantly improve your knowledge and skills. Participants acquired substantial knowledge.
  • Most participants studied the certificate online, which helped them get online experience and use that experience to their and others’ advantages. Some participants who didn’t have email and never thought email or the internet was important, now have their own email accounts and use online resources often.
  • Participants also learned to type using a computer, and this skill particularly helps them during their soft-note copying process.
  • Those who were in the program now make presentations using computers and projectors, a skill they needed, because we recently introduced projector-based lessons.
Testimonials

“I have improved a lot in how I interact and do online work. My research skills have also greatly improved. I can freely use the internet. If there is another opportunity to study such a certificate, I will gladly do it.” Rebecca Ikoba

“I studied the certificate for only one month, it could have been shorter, but sometimes the videos loaded slowly. I have, however, gained so much knowledge. There are very many things that I didn’t know especially the theory. I did the test three times to hit the pass-mark. At first, I got 64%, then 74%, and finally 84%. This helped me to learn even more. I am grateful to DTML for such an opportunity.” Elungat Patrick

“We are grateful to DTML for this wonderful opportunity. Personally, I have gained from it and so have the teachers. We did it for free;, other institutions charge a hefty fee. This is definitely a valued-addition. We shall apply it in our daily lives, practically.” Jehoakim Muyobo (Head Teacher)

“The certificate has given me much more knowledge. I thought I knew it all. It is a good addition to my knowledge, and I can apply it practically. I am really thankful.” Emmanuel Odongo (Computer Lab Specialist)

The certificate program was an excellent opportunity for the staff to expand their minds and knowledge. We can now see a marked difference when staff and administration interact with computers. The success of this certificate is assisting us in pushing forward with our Community Outreach Computer Program, especially because we are mostly teaching adults and a few children. The teachers also have been encouraged to use the computer laboratory more often, so they can apply their newly learned skills and continue to learn even more on their own.
